What is the KZN Conservancies Association?

The KZN Conservancies Association (KZNCA) was formed in 1981 to provide a forum where member Conservancies can discuss matters of mutual interest, and to provide a body to liaise with the formal conservation body in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, with provincial and local government bodies and with non-government organisations on behalf of the conservancy movement.

The KZNCA was formally constituted in 1987 and is administered by an executive committee elected at the annual general meeting and is served by a part-time secretary.
The membership of the KZNCA is open to all Conservancies, including those situated outside the province. There is no obligation on the part of a registered conservancy to join.
The KZNCA executive committee meets quarterly at the Queen Elizabeth Park offices of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (EKZNW). The Association holds its annual general meeting in May of each year, at Queen Elizabeth Park.
To readily confirm with the conservancy definition, a conservancy usually consists of private or company owned freehold or leased property.
In areas where land is communally owned, such as in tribal areas, a recent development has been the creation of Community Conservation Reserves (CCR’s). In this instance, the local Inkosi and his people practice a voluntary environmental management of their area with the intention of building up the sustainable use of the natural resources to a point where it is profitable for the community as a whole
